The Volkswagen beetle is one of the world's most popular cars, and is currently undergoing a facelift. The first model was put into production in 1938, and it stayed the same until it was revamped in the nineties. The car is a favourite across Europe, made by the German producer Volkswagen, and is a top seller in the US due to its innovative build and interesting advertising. It went into decline in the sixties as it was in competition with Ford's Pinto and the AMC Gremlin, but it has stood the test of time and is now a bit of a nostalgic, retro car.

The third generation of the car is to be unveiled in the eighteenth of April this year, and will be revealed in a pretty extravagant manner. The launches, in conjunction with MTV will be simultaneous in New York, Shanghai and Berlin in an attempt to make it the biggest car launch of modern times. The Black Eyed Peas will perform at the party in the Big Apple, while pop duo 2manydjs, a Belgian act, will headline the Berlin event. It is currently unknown what music will be offered in the Shanghai launch.

Marketing Director of the brands, Luca de Meo said "the beetle is an icon of the automotive world, just like MTV is an icon of the music world" which is why the brand have chosen to do the launch with this TV station. They are aiming to take Volkswagen to a new era of follows and appeal directly to the customer on a global level. They are positive that the new model beetle will be a hit with customers, as it has one of a kind styling and an array of new features to impress, like the latest in technological innovations.
